Three rooms, seven city games
Indoors you play against the clock in a room we built. Outdoors the old town of Solothurn becomes the board, in any weather.

How a game runs, the rules and twelve tips for your team
An escape room is a puzzle game you don’t play at a table: you play it from the inside. Your team steps into a purpose-built set and has 60 minutes for its mission: brew a healing potion, get rid of a ring with far too much power or shut down a megalomaniac inventor’s machine. To get there, you search for clues, connect them and open lock after lock until the way out is clear. You need no prior knowledge and no German: everything you need to solve it is inside the room.
Before the clock starts
Your game master tells you the backstory and explains the rules: what not to touch and how to ask for help during the game. Phones and cameras stay outside; we take the group photo at the end. Then the door closes and the clock on the wall starts running.
Inside the room
At first glance, a lot of it looks like scenery. Only when you search do you discover what belongs to the game: a number on the back of a picture, a symbol that turns up three times, a key that fits no door but does fit a chest. Every puzzle you solve gives you something new, such as a code, an object or the next part of the room. One thing leads to the next, all the way to the finale. Many puzzles can’t be solved alone at all: they take several pairs of eyes, hands and heads. Running, climbing or force, on the other hand, are never needed.
When you’re stuck
Your game master follows the game from outside. If you’re stuck, you get a hint, usually a nudge in the right direction rather than the answer itself. Hints cost nothing but a little pride, so ask early rather than late.
After 60 minutes
Whether you escape with seconds to spare or the clock wins, a short debrief and the group photo in the room follow. Each of our rooms is built differently; only the idea stays the same. So next time, a whole new story is waiting.
Tips and tricks for your team
Talk all the time. Say out loud what you find, even if it seems unimportant. Someone else is often holding the matching piece. And listen to the quiet ones too: the best idea doesn’t always come from the loudest person.
Always work together. An escape room is not a solo contest. Whoever cracks a puzzle tells the others and helps with the next one.
Try everything. Even the crazy idea. A wrong attempt costs nothing; an idea you never try might cost you the exit.
Watch colours, shapes and symbols. Things that share a colour or a sign often belong together.
Split up the room. Each person searches one corner thoroughly, instead of everyone looking in the same drawer.
Keep everything in one place. Don’t pocket anything; put what you find where everyone can see it. Finished items go on a separate pile, and used keys stay in their lock.
Read the lock. Four digits? Then you’re looking for a four-digit number. Letters? Then a word. Guessing rarely works, because codes are almost never just lying around.
Count what can be counted. Candles, lines, books, sounds: many codes hide in things you can count.
Brains, not force. If something won’t budge, its turn hasn’t come yet. No puzzle requires force.
Take turns. If someone has been stuck on the same puzzle for minutes, let someone else have a go. Fresh eyes often spot right away what’s missing.
What’s left? When you’re stuck, check which objects and clues you haven’t used yet. That’s usually exactly where the answer is.
Ask for a hint early. Better after five minutes of standstill than after fifteen. And pick someone to keep an eye on the clock now and then.

How does an outdoor escape game work?
How it runs, your kit and tips for the road
An outdoor escape game is an escape room without walls. You play right in the middle of Solothurn’s old town: streets, squares and corners you normally walk straight past become the scenes of your story. No game master walks with you. Your team is on its own, and the game itself leads you from place to place.
How it goes
01
Start with us
You meet us at Poststrasse 3. In a short introduction we explain the game and how to get help along the way.
02
Your kit
Depending on the game: a case full of high-tech with your game device, a police file with a locked case, a monster scanner or a bag full of leftovers from last night.
03
Into town
You walk from scene to scene. In some games, augmented reality merges the town with a virtual world on your screen: suddenly a portal opens or a monster becomes visible. Every puzzle you solve takes you to the next place and a step further in the story.
04
Mission accomplished
After about two hours the case is solved, the portal sealed or the town saved. Then you hand back your kit.
Good to know
- You play in almost any weather.
- Most games are played in teams of two to six; larger groups start in several teams at the same time.
- The games are in German.
Tips for the road
The escape room tips above apply outdoors too: talk, work together, try everything and watch the colours. On top of that:
Share the roles. One person navigates, one reads aloud, one handles the device, one keeps a lookout. Swap now and then so everyone gets a turn.
Stay together. The team sets the pace, not the fastest person. What only one of you has seen, you can’t solve together.
Read every text carefully. Briefings and messages often hold the decisive clue, sometimes in a single word.
Look closely. Dates, inscriptions, coats of arms, signs: the town is full of details that can suddenly matter.
Mind the traffic. No puzzle is so urgent that you need to cross on red.
Be considerate. You’re playing in the middle of everyday town life. Leave passers-by, shops and private property in peace.
Dress for the weather. Comfortable shoes, a jacket, something to drink in summer. And bring a charged phone.
Get help in time. If you’re stuck, use the help before frustration sets in. It’s about a great experience, not about pride.

The original Swiss escape room. AdventureRooms opened Switzerland’s first escape room in Bern in 2011. In Solothurn you have been playing with us since 2015, today at Poststrasse 3. Every room has its own story, its own set and its own puzzles. An experience you will not find in quite this form anywhere else.

Why AdventureRooms
What sets us apart
One of a kindYou are inside it
Set, story and puzzles lock together until you forget the old town is right outside. There is no second version of this experience.
MechanicalLocks, not screens
Here you turn real locks and search real drawers. No tablet walking you through the evening.
Since 2015Over ten years in Solothurn
Teams have been playing with us in Solothurn since 2015. In that time a few thousand groups have tried to get out on time.
Indoors and outdoorsTen games, one place
Three built rooms and seven games in the old town. Larger groups can play both at once.
Duel
Two teams, one course
From seven people on, one room gets too tight. In a duel you play the same course against each other, in two halves with the roles swapped. Ideal for larger groups, company events and school trips.
Team A
Starts at the beginning
You run the whole course and try to catch Team B before it escapes.
Team B
Starts in the middle
You are already halfway through and have to get out before Team A catches you.

How it goes
What happens
From arriving to the group photo takes about ninety minutes. The clock only runs for one of them.
01
Arrive
Come ten minutes early. Coats and bags stay with us, then you get a short briefing.
02
The door
It closes behind you. From here the clock on the wall counts, and from here you are on your own.
03
Solve
Search, combine, talk to each other. Anyone stuck gets a hint. It costs nothing but pride.
04
Out
The last number is right, the door opens. Then the group photo, and the argument over whose idea it was.
